Cinco de Mayo is upon us, so i figured I’d write a quick note about some fun ideas for celebrating the festivities.
A little history: Cinco de Mayo, celebrated on the fifth of May commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867).
Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations within the United States and is quickly spreading to other countries. Cinco de Mayo traditionally include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals.
Here are some ideas:
- Throw a Cinco de Mayo party
For decor, you can quickly create a festive environment by using streamers of all colors you can find, throw in a handful of colored beads, plastic shot glasses(of course!), fake mustaches, party props and whatever bright and colorful that you can find!
For games, there’s always the classic Pink the Tail on the Donkey or you can get a Pinata.
My advice for the perfect Cinco de Mayo party – get all your guests drunk!! 😀
Now if you are not in the mood to host a party, there’s always option no. 2
2. Check out local restaurants
3. Check out local events/festivals
Cinco de Mayo is the perfect time to go out with friends, have a couple of drinks, scarf down street tacos and enjoy the sights and sounds of a Cinco de Mayo parade!
There are multiple cities that often have such parades so checking your ‘things to do in (city name)‘ website would be the perfect place to get started.
I hope you all have an awesome time! I know I sure will.. can’t wait to share pictures with you all.
